There was both good and bad news awaiting the Werder head-coach Thomas Schaaf as he arrived at the Weser-Stadium on Monday. The short break after the intensive trainings camp in Belek, Turkey was clearly positive with only Aaron Hunt unable to join in at training. The Under 21 international took part in some light private training after his knee problems but was forced to finish that early. "I wanted to see today if I can return to full training but I'm just not ready yet", explained Hunt who is trying to come to terms with an annoying situation. "I'm fine, it's just my knee. All I can do is wait - it's just a pity that this should happen during preparation."

More positive was the news from trio Pekka Lagerbloom, Leon Andreasen and Andreas Reinke who played full rolls in team training, with Tim Borowski also on the brink of return. "He took part in everything today short of our final kick-about. He's almost there", commented Schaaf. Borowski himself added: "I'll be back within the next two or three days. I'll have to discuss the rest with the trainer, it's important not to start again too early. I would say the St. Pauli game is a realistic goal."

Rather less inspiring than the personnel situation were the training conditions in Bremen. Schaaf was forced to take his players out on the astro-turf pitch due to frost. The underground heating on the trainings pitches had been playing up during the week and only working at times. "I thought that had all been sorted already, I just hope it will be soon or we'll have to find another solution." The trainer could see one positive side: " I think we can expect pretty rough pitch conditions in Pauli on Wednesday, they have no underground heating either."
