Werder Bremen have begun their trainings programme in Turkey. Directly after arrival, trainer Thomas Schaaf called his men together for a training session on the hotels own football pitch. The coach was satisfied with both the attitude of his players and the pitch conditions. "Everyone started wellbut we have a heavy programme ahead of us. The conditions here are as we had hoped. The air is clear, we have good playing surface conditions - you can't ask for more."
The first night in Belek was turbulant. A heavy thunder storm shook the hotel complex. The result was an uneasy night for the Werder players and the cancellation of the first jogging session at 7:45am.
During the first training period at 11am, Werder prepared for their tie against Besiktas Istanbul. For Thomas Schaaf getting things underway is of the utmost importance: "We want to play well and get the New Year off to a good start and that will be our focus point today." Schaaf admitted he is also looking forward to a reunion with Ailton: "Of course we'll exchange a few words if the situation allows."
