The K&K strike force is back. Klose and Klasnic blasted Werder to the top of the table with both grabbing braces in a 5:2 win over Armenia Bielefeld in the first game of the season. The duo were on the mark again against Mainz getting a goal each in a 2:0 win. The German international didn't get a goal in the 1:1 draw in Stuttgart but the Croation scored the equaliser to leap frog his colleague in the goal scoring list.

The strike pair divided the goals between them in their two legged Champions League qualifying tie against Basel. Klose netted in Basel to make the scoreline 2:1 and give Werder a chance in the next leg. Klasnic found the mark then twice in the return match which Werder convincingly won 3:0. The Champions League group would throw Werder the challenges of Panathinaikos Athens, Udinese Calcio and FC Barcelona with 'World Footballer of the Year' Ronaldinho.

That Klasnic and Klose are not the only Green-Whites who can score goals was made clear in the DFB-Cup. Klasnic may have score the first against second division Wattenscheid 09, but it was Daniel Jensen and Aaron Hunt who finished them off, the match finishing 3:1.

To insure they are just as effective at the back as up front, Werder signed goalkeeper Christian Vander from Bochum to back up Andreas Reinke. The 24 year old was selected to fill the gap left by the injured Tim Weise. Mohamed Zidan, on the other hand, was moving in the opposite direction, leaving the Hanseatic city until the end of the season for Mainz.

Another transfare was on the cards for the Green-Whites as media director Tino Polster announced the move of werder-online.de to werder.de. The new site was a major improvement on it's predecessor with much more information and pictures of the squad. It's success was clear with werder.de reaching a record 76,000 clicks in one day.

The Werder Bremen third team were paid a surprise visit by the South African national team and challenged to a game on pitch 11. Victor Skripnik's side achieved a worthy 0:0 draw against the 2010 World Cup hosts.
