Werder goalkeeping legend, Dieter Burdenski has decided to hang up his gloves for good and pass on his post as goalkeeper trainer at the end of the year. "It was a very difficult decision for me to make but with the World Cup year ahead I need to concentrate on my business", explained Budurski. Werder have already found a replacement for 'Budde', 39 year-old ex-Bundesliga keeper Michael Kraft.

General manager Klaus Allofs honoured the services of Budurski: "Werder Bremen have a lot to thank Dieter Budurski for. Not only did he make the most Bundesliga appearances of all time for Werder but as goalkeeper trainer he was also a vital part of our success. The club are losing an institution. Luckily we won't lose him totally, his company will still be involved with us in organisation for the Bundesliga team." Prior to Werders' next home game on 04.02.2006 against FSV Mainz, Budurski will receive an official send off from Werder and will be added to the list of honourary players. The keeper follows greats such as Richard Ackerschott, Arnold „Pico“ Schütz, Horst-Dieter Höttges, Marco Bode and Dieter Eilts onto the roll of honour for his performances.

Dieter Budurski began his career at FC Schalke 04 in 1969 before moving on to Armenia Bielefeld and then in 1972 on to Werder Bremen. With 444 games under his belt in the Werder colours, he remains the player with most appearances for the Green-Whites. As a player he won the German championship in 1988, as keeper trainer in 1999 the DFB cup as well as the domestic double in 2004. Budde is one of the few keepers who's made the goal scorer list. 08.09.1979, the then 28 year old keeper made the scoreline 2:2 with a penalty against VfB Stuttgart in a game that Werder went on to lose 2:3. Budde made 12 international appearances for Germany and was involved in the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina and the European Championships 1984 in France. In 1997 he returned to Werder as goalkeeper trainer.

Shortly after finishing his playing carreer, the keeper founded 'Budurski Events', an event marketing specialist who amongst other areas arranges trainings camps for professional clubs and football schools.

Michael Kraft will take over the keeper trainer roll from January 2006. The ex-professional was in Cologne from 1988 to 1998 where he played 27 Bundesliga games, he then moved to BakirköySpor Istanbul and played in the Turkish first division between 1990 and 1993 before returning to Germany to finish his active career at FC Gütersloh.

Kraft then began his work as a goalkeeper trainer gathering experience with FC Carl-Zeiss Jena (2000/2001), LR Ahlen (2002/2003), SK Bucheon (South Korea 2003), FC Incheon United (South Korea 2004) and was until very recently in a double position at SC Preußen Münster as co- and goalkeeper coach. "We're happy that we could lure Michael Kraft to us. He has proven successful as a goalkeeper trainer and we are convinced he can add to our staff because of that", said Klaus Allofs of his latest signing.
