Ümit Davala will leave Werder Bremen during the winter break. The 32 year old defender's contract will be prematurely terminated on 31.12.2005. The decision was made as a mutual agreement between the 41 time Turkish international and the Werder board.

"It has been difficult for Ümit to regain a place in the team after the injuries he suffered in recent months. He is now looking for the chance to prove himself at another club and after all our good work together we don't want to block his way", explained general manager Klaus Allofs on Monday morning. Head coach Thomas Schaaf commented on the performances of Davala during his time at Werder: "Ümit played his part in our success with his performances and his will to win. We wish him all the best for his new start."

Davala came to Werder Bremen from Galatasary Istanbul in summer 2003 where he had been on loan from Inter Milan. During Werders double winning 2003/2004 season, the Turk played 22 Bundesliga games but was subsequently hindered by a string if injury problems. Since 2004, the defender has only made 12 appearances for the Green-Whites, his last appearance in the Champions League against FC Basel, 10.08.2005. Ümit's most successful period at Bremen saw him win both the Bundesliga title and DFB-Cup in 2004.

Ümit Davala's destination is yet to be verified.
