German international Tim Borowski will undergo surgery on Friday afternoon in Berlin. Further examination by Dr. Jens Krüger supported the original diagnosis of Bremen team doctor Dr. Götz Dimanski, Borowski is suffering from a soft groin. The midfielder remained in Berlin after his examination to prepare for the operation. Trainer Thomas Schaaf commented on the situation: "We have lost Tim for the upcoming games but we hope he will return for our training restart in the new year.
Equally bad news for Christian Schulz who lengthens Werders injury list. The defender was substituted early in the second half against Panathinaikos Athens with a fibula injury: "At the moment I can't really run and am in pain in both calf and knee but the doctors say that's normal for a sprain and it will improve in the next few days which means I should be able to play against Cologne."
Johan Micoud and Frank Baumann are also both slightly suffering from muscular problems but should also both be available for Sundays game.
