Werder Bremen stay on their successful track in the Bundesliga with a highly deserved 4:1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on the eleventh match day of the 2005/2006 season and with that, defend second place in the table.

The Green-Whites were happy to start the tie with the return of Christian Schulz for the suspended Frank Fahrenhorst and playmaker Johan Micoud returning to the starting eleven in place of Daniel Jensen. The home side had an early shock as Patrick Owomoyela went down after a challenge with Frankfurts Spycher and suffered a nose bleed but the German international was fit to continue after some brief treatment.

Werder showed determination from early on and created their first opening after just nine minutes. Ivan Klasnic snatched on to a Naldo nod on but blasted over the bar from close range. It took a further three minutes before Werder broke again, Miroslav Klose was irritated by Marko Rehmer after a through ball from klasnic but Johan Micoud was unable to connect properly with the loose ball and sliced his shot wide.

Then it was the turn of the goal hungry Hessen side. Firstly Andreas reinke was on hand to deny Ioannis Amanatidis (15'). Four minutes later, Patrick Ochs took out the Werder defence with a perfect lob and in their sprint dual, Alexander Meier outpaced Leon Andreasen and laid back to the completely unmarked Amanatidis who slotted home to give Frankfurt the lead.

Torsten Frings first goal at home since return

The home team were seemingly unpreturbed by the Eintracht lead and responded with the perfect answer on the half hour. Torsten Frings rose highest to meet a Tim Borowski cross from the left, to chalk up his first goal at the Weser Stadium since his return to Bremen in summer. The Hanseatic boys missed out on the chance to get their noses in front before the break when Johan Micoud attempted to lob Eintracht keeper Oka Nikolov after a move through Micoud and borowski.

It was not to be a costly miss as the 32 year old Frenchman set Miroslav Klose through with a long ball which the German striker controlled, shook off marker Vasovski and then pulled his pass back from the by-line into the path of the on-rushing Borowski who slammed home to send the 41,085 spectators into erruption.

Bremens goal machine was now in full flow. Ivan Klasnic may have been denied by the reflexes Nikolov (58'), but his strike partner Klose was once again perfectly placed to get his name on the scoresheet. Klose 'Eleventh' goal of the season may have been aided by an arm as a delivery zipped across the box from 'Joe'Micoud, but referee Knut Kircher was convinced that it was unintentional and awarded the goal when the leagues current top scorer netted as he so often does.

Canter to the eight win of the season

The hosts continued to look hungry for more with the visitors unable to reproduce recent strenghts. Christian Schulz set Micoud on his way and 'Le Chef' was disappointed to see his chip beat both keeper and crossbar (67'). After a header from Klose just missed the target (70'), the home team took the foot off the gas. Thomas Schaaf made three changes during this period, Pekka Lagerbloom replacing Owomoyela to make his first appearance of the season.

Eintracht managed only one more attempt at goal through Patrick Ochs (77') before Tim Borowski buried the visitors in added time with his second of the afternoon. Again Micoud was involved, playing in Borowski who let fly from distance with a low drive and make the final score 4:1.
