At 8pm on Tuesday, 20.09.2005, Werder Bremen will take to the field to play Borussia Mönchengladbach and will once again be without the services of centre half Petri Pasanen. The Finn, who also had to pull out of Saturdays game against Dortmund, is still suffering from the after effects of concussion picked up during Werders Champion League qualifier against FC Basel. "We haven't found anything with him yet, which is a little worrying, but he'll have to take a few more days break", explained Thomas Schaaf on Monday. The headcoach continues to train without Nelson Valdez (muscle tear), Ümit Davala (hip problem) and Tim Wiese (cruciate ligament tear).

Many new faces in Gladbach

Werder Bremen are aware that they have a challenge ahead of them in Gladbach having lost three of their last four outings there. Trainer Horst Köppel's side have undergone a number of changes recently with ex-Werder midfielder Krisztian Lisztes, ex-Schalke man Nels Oude Kamphius, Danes Kasper Bögelund and Thomas helveg, Portugese midfielder Zé Antonio, Norways Hassan El Fakiri and Brazilian striker Kahe making up the seven new signings to start the season. With the exception of the injured Bögelund (achilles problem), all of Gladbachs new men are expected to make the squad. Bögelund is joined on the injury list by Christian Ziege (ankle), Jörg Böhme (rehab after knee operation), Bernd Thijs (broken foot) and Wesley Sonck (groin operation).

the "Fohlen" have made a somewhat stuttered start to the season with five points and a 5:8 goal difference. The homeside will want to notch up another three points in front of their own fans after last weeks 2:1 win against Duisburg. Most recently Gladbach suffered a 2:1 Rhein derby defeat by Cologne.

"Due to the fact that they've got so many new faces in the team, we will have to be careful not to allow them to get settled in the game", said Thomas Schaaf before the tie. "We want to present ourselves better there as we have done in recent seasons and try to impress a similar dominance to that which we displayed against Dortmund." The trainer made equally clear that he is not just relying on the formidable goal-touch of his K&K strike force, but that of the "High quality" of his whole team.
