"Mohamed Zidan needs match practice. With the competition up front at Werder, it didn't appear likely that he would get this opportunity over the next few months", explained Werder general manager Klaus Allofs with regards to the move. An added reason was the fact that as Non-EU foreign national, he dosen't qualify to play in the reserve side. "We are convinced of Zidans qualities and it was vital to us that he remain in the Bundesliga to continue his integration in Germany and to German football. Mainz is a good place to be and their determination to sign Zidan is proof of how valuable he is. Everyone profits from this solution."
Mohamed Zidan arrived at the Weser in 2005 from Danish club FC Midtylland, scoring twice in ten Bundesliga appearances. During his time in Bremen he also celebrated his first international cap with now two games in the Egyptian national kit under his belt.
