A couple crows were the only ones on the training grounds in front of Weser Stadium Wednesday morning. Otherwise the grounds were empty save for some cold protection coverings. But there was practice as icy temperatures sent the Werder team into Weser Stadium. The 20 Werder players were warmly dressed for a one-hour training game with Weser Stadium serving as a frost protection for the players.
"The pitch heating in the stadium is much more effective than on the training grounds," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the reason for the session in the stadium. "In addition, the conditions are much better there because the extremely cold temperatures are caused by the blistering winds and those are stopped by the stands."
Back on the grounds on Wednesday were two players who have missed training recently. Both Daniel Jensen and Marko Arnautovic were able to train again with the team. "I was able to do all the drills without pain," said the Austrian striker Arnautovic. The Danish midfielder Jensen also overcame the training without any problems. "I hardly felt anything due to the icy cold and wind, but I definitely didn’t have any pain," said Jensen, who like Arnautovic will be an option for the coming weekend for Werder’s roster. "If I can train again on Thursday then I will definitely be available on the weekend," said Jensen.
