Former Werder goalkeeper Dieter Burdenski celebrated his 60th birthday on Friday 26 November 2010. The long-time Green-White and former German international, who transferred from Arminia Bielefeld to the Weser in 1972 and stood between the Bremen posts for 16 years before later becoming Werder’s goalkeeper coach and being part of the 1999 German Cup winning staff and the side which won the double in 2003-04. "Budde" today is an honorary captain for the Green-Whites.
"Dieter Burdenski was an important part of Werder Bremen during his active playing days and later as goalkeeper coach. He was an outstanding goalkeeper and is just as respected as Werder veteran. We are happy that Dieter is still connected with us in his function as honorary captain and wish him good health and happiness for the future," congratulated manager Klaus Allofs the man of honor in name of SV Werder Bremen.
