Following the motto: "Never Change The Winning Colours", Werder have decided to maintain the additional orange to their traditional green and white as an attractive added extra. "Papageizwei" (parrot two) is the successor of the double winning green shirts with orange arms, a jersey which has become a symbol for Bremen. The new design is now more noticable and obscure than its predecessor from the previous two years.
The black "Event" shirt has also served its purpose and has been replaced by a silver-grey shirt with a red slash. The popular white shirt with green slash will survive one more season.
Werders goalkeepers can also choose between three very distinctly coloured shirts. Aside from yellow and orange, KAPPA and Werder Bremen introduce for the first time in the Bundesliga, a pink shirt. Werders new kits will be rounded off with a new trainings and casual range.
Why are Werder starting the season with three new jerseys?
Basically due to regulations. As the homeside has the right to wear a shirt of their choice, the visiting team have to adapt to that. Referees are adament that their decisions are made easier by contrasting colours (for that reason Werder selected a white shirt and a green/orange shirt). Should two teams wear the same club colours (for example Werder and Wolfsburg), then the away side must wear a distinctly coloured kit.
The New Kits in Detail
KIT 1 "Papageizwei"
-The shirts front is seperated into two sections with green on the left and orange (mandarin) on the right. All other elements are for that reason exactly contrary to the front - the sides and the left sleeve in orange with green arm cuffs and green stitching around the KAPPA logo. In contrast, the right side and sleeve are green with orange cuffs and KAPPA trimming.
-As an addition to the figure hugging design from the 2004/2005 season, two white panals have been added to the sleeves to enhance the design.
-Another new addition is the KAPPA logo on the chest - an element of the 'Kool-Kombat 2005', which will be a part of all KAPPA equiped clubs in Europe in an attempt to raise the profile of the company through its logo (Omini).
-The collar remains completely green and constructed from a mesh material with Werders logo to be found in the neck area.
The Material
The new shirt is a high quality Polyamid/Elasthan mixture which will combine a light wearability as well as a strechability in all directions. The usage of Elasthan will also prevent aging and discolouration through UV exposure. The front of the shirt includes a Polyamid/Elasthan mesh design which will provide a cooling element for the players.
This is now the fifth range from 'Kool Kombat' which is to be named 'Kool Kombat 2005'. The first range in 2000 carried the name 'Stop Stopping' which was first worn by the Italian national team with the practical element being that players could no longer have their shirts tugged so easily by opponents. Aside from that, the special new design aspect played a big part in KAPPAs' motto "Football Goes Fashion".
Shorts and socks for outfit 1:
To compliment the shirts, shorts in white or orange will be worn as a continuation of the previous design. The white shorts carry an orange band on the left and a green band on the right. To coincide with this, the orange shorts have a white band on the left and a green band on the right. Both shorts portray the KAPPA logo on the left leg and the Werder crest on the right.
The new look is completed by tri-coloured (green, orange and white), hooped sock which will sport both the KAPPA and Werder logos at shin level.
Outfit 2 "Green/White '04/'05:
As change gear, the "Green/White '04/'05" from last season will once again be first option. The extremely popular white shirt with green slash will be complimented by green shorts and white socks.
Outfit 3 "Event":
As an added extra the players have a third kit available to them which will replace the black kit from last season with a totally new colour combination. The main colour is Stone (a light grey) with a silver gloss effect and red. Basis for the so called 'Event' jersey is as of the the new 'Papageizwei' shirt with the same features for the 'Kool Kombat 2005' collection. Across the chest, the diagonal bar which is part of the 'Green/White '04/'05' shirt appears in red.
The kit is completed by a red short with the same design as outfit 1 and stone coloured socks with a red band.
The players will recieve an further developed version of this kit for international matches with the KAPPA logos being directly printed onto the sleeves and shorts.
Goalkeeper kits:
To compliment the outfield players, the goalkeepers have also three new shirts available to them in orange (mandarin), yellow and pink. All shirts follow the 'Kool Kombat 2005' figure hugging design. The yellow shirt is combined with yellow shorts and socks with the orange and pink shirts to be worn with black shorts and socks.
Training and casual wear:
In addition to the new kits, KAPPA are also responsible for the complete outfits both trainigs and casuals for players and managemant alike in stone, dark grey and orange.
