Hugo Almeida put on the finishing touch against the world champions as Werder’s Portuguese international striker scored in the 90th minute in Portugal’s 4-0 win over their Iberian neighbours Spain. In front of a home crowd in Lisbon Wednesday night, Almeida was subbed on after 76 minute for the two-goal scorer Hélder Postiga.
Petri Pasanen also had reason to celebrate – and that eight times as Finland eased past San Marino 8-0 in their Group E Euro2012 qualifier with Mikael Forssell (3 goals), Kasper Hämäläinen (2), Roni Porokara, Mika Väyrynen and 39-year-old Jari Litmanen tallying the goals for Finland. While Marko Marin and Per Mertesacker and the rest of the German national team had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Sweden, Werder’s Daniel Jensen and his Danish national team also played to a scoreless draw in a friendly against the Czech Republic in Aarhus.
Goals meanwhile were scored in Vienna but Werder’s two Austrians Sebastian Prödl and Marko Arnautovic suffered a 2-1 defeat to the hands of Greece. Mainz’s Christian Fuchs scored for Austria while Samaras and Fotakis struck for Greece.
