Things did not look good Wednesday when Claudio Pizarro limped off the training pitch towards the changing room. "It doesn’t look good," said the Peruvian. On Thursday it was clear that 'Piza' would not be available on Saturday 13 November 2010 at 3:30 p.m. against Eintracht Frankfurt. Head coach Thomas Schaaf confirmed Thursday at the press conference before the 12th Bundesliga game day that Pizarro would definitely be out with a torn right thigh muscle fibre.
"Unfortunately, Claudio is not available. Of course that affects us. But through this others have the chance to prove themselves," Schaaf told media members. Missing from Thursday’s training session also was striker Hugo Almeida, who could not take part in team training due to a cold. But there was positive news for the team as defender Petri Pasanen and midfielder Philipp Bargfrede both overcame their muscular problems and returned to team training on Thursday. "They will be back," Schaaf said.
Right back Clemens Fritz meanwhile will not be able to play against Frankfurt. "We had hoped that he would be back on Saturday. But we could not have our wishes fulfilled," said Schaaf, who looks back on a positive week of training. "We used the time to work on things we needed to improve upon. We also did a lot of individual work during the week, both in training and in the analysis," said the 49-year-old coach.
