Werder players were back on the Weser Stadium training grounds Monday morning after the bitter 6-0 loss at Stuttgart and the return flight to Bremen. The starting line-up went through a run down while the rest of the players had training – almost the usual procedure after a match. But only almost. Before head coach Thomas Schaaf called his players to training, the entire team including coaching staff gathered in the changing room to discuss the game. And part two of the game analysis followed after the training.
"We dealt very intensively with the game and analysed it. It was a discussion in which many people spoke out," described Marko Marin the team meeting including video analysis of the Sunday away match. "We were looking for solutions how things could be better in the future. And we found some solutions." The German international Marin and his team-mates were still bitterly disappointed how Werder could suffer their worst loss in 23 years. "The team is very disappointed and sad. There is nothing positive about Sunday’s performance."
One positive away from the loss was that Philipp Bargfrede is close to returning to the team. "I hope that I can be back in the coming days," said the midfielder. Bargfrede is still dealing with muscular problems but took part in a running session with fellow injured players Clemens Fritz and Petri Pasanen and fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel. Dominik Schmidt meanwhile was a step further and was back on the training grounds on Monday after recovering from his shin bone edema. Of course, all the players were back in the changing room for the game analysis.
