Luuk de Jong may be a very young player at 20 years old. But the striker for Twente Enschede, Werder’s opponents in the Champions League on Tuesday, 2 November 2010 at 8:45 p.m., has already experienced quite a bit. For example at the last match between these teams at Weser Stadium when the young Dutchman cut the deficit to 3-1 in his first appearance on the European stage. In the end, Werder won 4-1 but the Dutch team wants to improve on that this time around.

"Even back then we had a stabile team, now we are even tighter. And we will show that tomorrow," said de Jong on Monday at the official press conference ahead of the Champions League group match in Bremen. The striker exuded plenty of confidence, which is not a surprise as Twente are on a roll. On the weekend, Enschede knocked off Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven 1-0 on the road to take over the lead on the table.

Enschede’s head coach Michel Preud'homme also believes his team can do quite a bit Tuesday night, though he has plenty of respect of Werder Bremen despite Werder’s 3-2 loss at home against Nuremberg. "Every team has their problems. But Werder already played a good match at De Grolsch Veste in Enschede. I also saw them in the German Cup against Bayern where they played excellently. So they can’t really have that big of problems," said Preud'homme, who took over as Enschede coach to replace the current Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren.

The Belgium also did not rule out his team using unusual means to win in Bremen. "Usually we want to play an offensive game, want to control the game. But you have to be patient against a team like Bremen. Therefore a defensive tactic may be correct as well," said the Twente coach, who would even be happy to take home fewer than three points. "Maybe we would be satisfied with a draw. Our chances for the Round of 16 would only be over with a loss."
