Werder Bremen will begin the new season with a home tie against Armenia Bielefeld according to the official schedule released by the DFL on Sunday morning. The game, which will pith new Werder man Patrick Owomoyela against his former club, will take place on either Saturday, 06.08.2005 or Sunday 07.08.2005. Werders first away game will be a visit to the carnival club Mainz 05 followed by VfB Stuttgarts visit to the Weser Stadium.
Werders much awayited ties with top clubs Bayern Munich and Schalke will follow in autumn. The meeting of the double winners of the last two years will be on the 12th matchday, 05/06.11.2005 at the Allianz-Arena and then on the 14th match day Werder head-off to the Veltins Arena AufSchalke on the 14th match day, 27/27.11.2005.
The season will end with a North Derby, Hamburg first making their way to the Weser on the 17th match day, 17/18.12.2005. The Werder will finish the 2005/2006 season at the AOL-Arena on Saturday, 13.05.2006.
Team captain Frank Baumann commented on the game plan: "It's nice for the fans and important for us that we can begin the season at home. We will go into the game against Armenia Bielefeld as favourites and I'm pretty sure that's correct and that we can start the season with a win. Armenia will start the season with an almost completely new side and that could be to our advantage."
