The aggravation surrounding the 2-1 German Cup defeat at Bayern Munich is not quite passed. But Werder Bremen players must look forward as the Green-Whites’ next task awaits on Saturday 30 October 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Weser Stadium where they will face Nuremberg. But there will likely be a change in the squad for head coach Thomas Schaaf as right back Clemens Fritz is questionable heading towards the game.
The defender was complaining about muscular problems after the game against Munich on Tuesday and missed training on Wednesday and Thursday. "Clemens will not be ready by Saturday. We still have a bit of hope, but as it looks now, he will not be fit in time," said Thomas Schaaf at a press conference on Thursday.
It’s quite clear though that Sebastian Mielitz will be between the posts for Werder against Nuremberg despite Tim Wiese’s healing process being right on schedule. "He has already completed some running drills, of course not with full stress. We have to take things slowly," said Schaaf about Wiese’s situation, adding that an appearance by the German national team keeper on Saturday is "out of the question".
But the Green-Whites would like the three points after just missing a victory against Munich. "Of course we are still very disappointed about getting eliminated in the German Cup. But the Nuremberg match gives us a chance to do things better," said Schaaf. Manager Klaus Allofs wanted to look at the team’s positive trend in the Bundesliga. "We have put together a fine stretch in the Bundesliga recently. It’s just a matter of time before we reach the upper regions of the table. The teams starting with third place are not really that far off, they are within striking distance," said Allofs.
