It took weeks for Werder Bremen to secure the services of Wesley. And after intensive negotiations between the Green-Whites and FC Santos, the Brazilian was presented at the end of August. Two months into the season, Werder fans know the efforts were worthwhile. WERDER.DE looked back with the 23-year-old at his start in Bremen.
Hello Wesley, you have been in Bremen for two months. Do you feel at home yet?
Yeah, I feel really welcome here. The people here are very quiet, polite and respectful. And things with the language are getting better all the time too. I hope to soon communicate in German.
Over the last couple weeks you have gotten to know the typical "Bremen weather".
smiling) Of course I am used to other weather from Brazil – the sun shines more often and it’s warmer. But I am slowly getting used to it raining more often and I know that it could be worse. Still, I also have to get used to the cold. What is still comfortable for you is already cold for me.
You said at the beginning that you have to get used to the Bundesliga. Thomas Schaaf said you are playing as though you have played here for years.
It is a very big difference between the Brazilian and German leagues. Play is much quicker here and the level is altogether much higher. But I am just trying to always help the team.
How would you describe your current performance level?
Physically I am 100 percent fit and am in a good rhythm with lots of games. But you can learn in every training and every game, and I know that I can still improve more.
