The game at Borussia Park was something very special for two Werder players. The task for one is to prevent goals and for the other it is to score them. And both Sebastian Mielitz and Claudio Pizarro were especially good at that in the 4-1 victory in Gladbach. The 21-year-old Mielitz was making just his third Bundesliga appearance in replacing the injured Tim Wiese but he kept Werder in the game at all times and turned out to be the match winner with numerous super saves.

"This performance does not surprise me, and that is perhaps the biggest compliment that you can give a player," praised manager Klaus Allofs. "You can hardly play any better than that. He had a good aura and really excellently stopped a number of balls. He has the best requisites for the future," added Allofs. "We have to thank Miele, he was the support we needed. He hints his potential at every training and had a super game," said goal scorer Marko Marin. Mielitz himself remained as usual reserved. "I did not really realise what happened today. But altogether I am satisfied with my performance," said the Werder keeper.

Claudio Pizarro scored in the 75th minute to make it 4-1. It was his 134th goal in the Bundesliga, making the 32-year-old the sole record holder as top scoring foreign-born player in Bundesliga league history. "I finally did it. I had to wait a long time after pulling even with Giovane Elber last season," said Pizarro, who has no thoughts of quitting his goal scoring duties. "I did not really set a goal, but I would like to score as many goals as possible."

The one excelled in the back while the other picked up a record up front. But one thing connected Pizarro and Mielitz – it was a day that neither will forget too quickly.
