Werder Bremen on Saturday captured their first victory in Gladbach since winning the double in 2003-04 and their first success at Borussia Park in their sixth attempt. "We have seen an improving trend in the past couple games. Today we took another small step forward," said manager Klaus Allofs. "I am happy that we won today, especially because we have never taken home anything from here in the past," added Allofs. "We improved again today and continued what we did well on Wednesday in Enschede. The team played a good match today," said head coach Thomas Schaaf, whose team has not lost in four Bundesliga matches.
Former Gladbach player Marko Marin, who gave Bremen the lead after five minutes, said it was a much more difficult game than the result would indicate. "It was not an easy victory at all. But the two early goals helped us a lot," said Marin. Despite the 4-1 victory, the Green-Whites were also critical of themselves. "Altogether we missed too many chances. The game could have been 10-6 as well. We have to stop allowing so many opposing goals and work better defensively," said an aggravated captain Torsten Frings.
