Werder Bremen’s history in the last two showings at Borussia Park is short and painful. The Green-Whites have suffered two bitter losses (4-3 – in 2009-10, 3-2 – 2008-09). And both times Borussia Mönchengladbach took a big lead which the guests could not recover from because they were too late finding themselves into the game. On Saturday, 23 October 2010, Werder have another chance to return home from Mönchengladbach with a victory. Their last win there dates back to a 2-1 victory in the championship season in 2003-04.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf is not leaving his team much room for interpretation. "Our goal simply has to be to win in Gladbach," said Schaaf. "We have to get going and slowly collect the points that we haven’t gotten thus far," added manager Klaus Allofs. "That also means getting points in Gladbach." Ideally it would be three points. And seven points from the past three games against Hamburg, Leverkusen and Freiburg would be a good start.
