On Wednesday, Werder play on Dutch soil for the seventh time, but they have yet to collect a victory in the neighbouring country. Not yet. "Maybe we can change that this Wednesday," hopes Aaron Hunt. "Maybe we were surprised last time with the good atmosphere and playing style of Twente," added the 23-year-old. "That will not happen this time. We are very well prepared." Head coach Thomas Schaaf knows though that the match will be anything but easy. "Twente are a good team. They kept many of their strengths from last season; are undefeated in the league; and continue to do the things they did last year," said the coach. "They play attractive football, attack very well and are very motivated," added Schaaf, who clearly recalls his team’s showing against Inter Milan on the Champions League group stage’s first game day. "We saw ourselves how difficult it is against Milan."
Still, the Green-White camp agrees that they will bring home their first victory in the Netherlands on Wednesday. "We have to understand that we are facing a strong opponent. It is important for us to finally make some headway in this group. We really only did that at times against Tottenham," said Schaaf. "If you want to advance from a group, then you can’t just have good matches but also take the points to improve your position." Aaron Hunt revealed how the team could win the three points. "We have to stand compactly and force the opponents into mistakes. But we also have to play offensively as well," said the midfielder.
