Back to the roots, that is the motto for Marko Arnautovic for the trip to Enschede. The 21-year-old is travelling back to his football past in Bremen’s Champions League away match. Arnautovic was under contract with the Dutch champions between 2006 and 2009, becoming a true top level player. Now before his return, he answered journalists’ questions with WERDER.DE on hand to record some of the Austrian’s comments.
Marko, on Wednesday the team plays against Twente Enschede, your former club. Is this contest special for you?
At the end of the day it’s a match like any other. The constellation does give me some extra motivation. But I am playing for Werder Bremen now and absolutely want to win.
Is there any danger that you go into the game over-motivated because you want to do something special?
I just have to make sure that I have a clear head going into the game and do the things that the coach asks of me. The only thing that matters is helping the team. Everything else will take care of itself.
An important step for a successful season for the team would be reaching the Round of 16, right? After taking just one point from two group matches, a victory would be very important looking forward to possibly advancing!
You can’t really talk about a do-or-die game. But it is a directional game and very important for us. If we don’t take the full points then it will be very difficult to advance from the group stage. That’s why we are heading there with a lot of confidence and will do everything we can to win three points.
