The training grounds Thursday afternoon 14 October 2010 were once again pretty full. That was a clear sign that the national team break is over with. And all of Werder’s internationals were back at training Thursday except for Daniel Jensen, who is recovering from an injury and should be back to team training on Friday.
Despite missing a number of players, head coach Thomas Schaaf was positive looking back at the past week of training. "Even though not all the players were there due to the international matches, we trained quite well all week. We were also able to work on some things individually and really implemented them," said the coach.
The Bundesliga break was especially useful for the banged up players as Clemens Fritz, Torsten Frings and Tim Borowski all returned to full fitness and will be on the roster for the home match Saturday 16 October 2010 at 3:30 p.m. against Freiburg. "We have to get them back into the routine. That is our task," underlined Schaaf.
An appearance by striker Claudio Pizarro against Freiburg is also possible though the coach would not say if Pizarro is an option for the starting line-up. "It looks good. We will look and see how much he can do on Saturday," said Schaaf. A question mark however remains for Daniel Jensen as the Dane suffered a strain last weekend with his national team. "But I think it should be okay and Daniel can be there on Saturday," said the coach.
After having reduced personnel against Bayer Leverkusen, Schaaf now has more options for the game against Freiburg. And that could translate to good things for the Green-Whites.
