The German national team continued their strong path to direct qualifiation for the 2012 European Championhip in Poland and Ukraine as head coach Joachim Löw's side beat Kazakhstan - coached by German Bernd Storck - 3-0 (0-0) in Astana. Germany now have four victories for a perfect 12 points from four matches and first place in the Group A qualification campaign.
Werder international Per Mertesacker served as defensive boss for the entire 90 minutes and did not allow a goal to the quick, elusive opponents. Mertesacker's Werder teammate Marko Marin had a somewhat longer appearance off the bench, entering for Bayern Munich's Thomas Müller in the 71st minute.
Miroslav Klose scored in the 48th minute for his 58th goal for Germany in 105 caps, moving closer to Germany's all-time mark of 68 goals by Gerd Müller. The other goals were scored by Marko Gomez (76th) and Lukas Podolski (85th). It was coach Löw's 43rd victory in 61 matches as Germany's head coach.
