Honour for Ernst!! 'Kicker' (German no.1 football magazine) has bestowed the 'Golden K' on Fabian Ernst, who will oficially be a Schalke 04 player from July. The still Werder star recieved the award for the 2004/2005 season in the category 'Defensive midfield' with a massive 27,8% of the votes, leaving such names as Bayern Munichs superstar Michael Ballack (15,5%) trailing in his wake. Munichs Martin Demichelis was third with 14,1%, Stuttgarts Zvonimir Soldo with 10,4 in fourth and fifth spot going to Borrusia Dortmunds Sebastian Kehl (6,3%).
Miroslav Klose and Valerien Ismael, as Werder players made the top five in further categories. "Vale" was pipped to the post by future colleague in Munich, Lucio (34,8%) and Schalkes Marcelo Bordon (22,1%). Klose made third place in the striker poll with 7,8%. The clear winner up front was again from Munich, Roy Makaay taking a whopping 51,8% and Lukas Podolski from Cologne with 21,2%. Soon to be Green-White Patrick Owomoyela (21,8%)was also honoured for his performances through-out the season, taking second place behind Bayerns Sebastian Schweinsteiger (22,9%) in the 'Winger' category. Almost 20,000 readers took part in the "Golden K" poll from Kicker.
