When Thomas Schaaf called his players to the first training session of the week Tuesday afternoon he stood opposite a decimated group. Due to international duty and injuries the Werder coach was without 18(!) players. On the pitch were goalkeepers Sebastian Mielitz and Felix Wiedwald as well as Petri Pasanen (travelling on Thursday to the Finnish national team), Mikael Silvestre, Aaron Hunt, Felix Kroos, Said Husejinovic, Leon-Aderemi Balogun and Onur Ayik.
Tim Borowski was unable to take part in team training on Tuesday and the 30-year-old, who missed the Leverkusen game due to a lingering groin problem, will also miss training tomorrow. Another player not available for the Werder coach was Philipp Bargfrede, who has a cold.
