0-0 at Bayern, 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur – on Saturday, 18 September 2010 the Green-Whites want to finally bring home three points in their third game within a week against Mainz. Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf had Hugo Almeida (neck problems) back at training on Thursday and there are positive signals about the trio of injured Werder players Naldo, Per Mertesacker and Claudio Pizarro – who will all also miss the home game against Mainz.
Claudio Pizarro hopes to possibly be back on the game roster next Tuesday. "I feel good. I am happy that I can start running training tomorrow. But it is not enough for Saturday. But maybe it will be okay on Tuesday against Hannover, even if that is still very questionable at the moment," said Pizarro, who is currently labouring with a left thigh muscle strain.
Even though Naldo (knee problem) is not quite as far as his striker teammate Schaaf sees a positive trend with the defender. "It is slowly improving. He has already moved outside and now we hope that he overcomes the increased burden. At the moment it looks better but we cannot give a date when he will return to team training," said Schaaf.
Per Mertesacker meanwhile could return to the pitch soon. "He passed the first burden and we will test tomorrow how things will go on. Then we will control it with his face mask and if everything works out he could eventually be a topic for next Tuesday," said Schaaf.
