While Werder Bremen will begin their sixth Champions League campaign in the last seven seasons with their match against Tottenham Hotspur, the English side are entering unknown territory starting with the contest at Weser Stadium. "Tottenham have not been in a European competition for a long time so playing in the Champions League is something extremely special for the club," said Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp. "This is a very new experience for us. We are not yet used to this schedule. But we are looking forward to this game."

But Redknapp does not want to use his team’s inexperience as an excuse. "Of course experience is a very important factor. But that alone does not make Werder the favourites. The group is very balanced and other than Inter Milan, who come into the competition as defending champions, it will be very difficult for every team to qualify for the next round," said the confident Redknapp. Vedran Coluka, who represented the team as player at the press conference, was also confident ahead of the game. "It is a dream for every player to face off with the best teams on the big stage of the Champions League," said the defender.

"We have worked really hard for this and are excited about the coming games. I am confident that we can win here in Bremen." Redknapp sounded even more convinced. "We are a team that always wants to win and we also want to play a good match. Preferably we would be attacking with waving flags and win the game. It will be very difficult because we are starting the competition with an away match. But we want to give everything we have for a good start. And the most important thing is that we don’t lose," said Redknapp.

And the coach knows exactly what is awaiting his team. "We all know about Werder. Since the draw, I have seen every game of theirs and we have also watched other videos," said the Tottenham boss. "The game against Bayern Munich was even shown live in England and I cannot remember when a team held Bayern without a goal in their own stadium. That was a very good game by Werder."

And every one agrees that it will be a good match in the Champions League opener.
