The week before the Bundesliga match at Bayern Munich kicked off on Monday with Werder Bremen’s internationals still on national team duty as the Green-White prepare for the highlight on the third game day. "This is certainly a special match because Bayern always want to be best of the best and have been in recent years. Therefore it’s very interesting to measure yourself against them," said Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf excitedly ahead of the big game against the record champs.
In addition to the eight internationals playing for their respective countries, also missing from the Green-Whites' training Monday afternoon was Claudio Pizarro, who is still labouring with a slight thigh muscle tear. "Things are not yet good enough with Claudio that he can return fully to training," said Schaaf. "We have to remain a bit patient with him." The news is good on the other hand for Philipp Bargfrede as the 21-year-old has overcome the gastro-intestinal infection which kept him out last week and was once again able to participate in training.
But it was too early for Thomas Schaaf to worry much about available players for the weekend. "I am not thinking at all today about the personnel situation. We have to wait until after the national team matches this week to see who is available. A lot can happen," said the coach.
