The German national team started their 2012 European Championship qualification campaign with a victory, beating Belgium 1-0 (0-0) in Brussels on Miroslav Klose’s goal in the 51st minute. Werder Bremen Per Mertesacker played the full 90 minutes in the interior defence and celebrated his 70th cap for Germany.

 

His Werder teammates Marko Marin and Tim Wiese did not appear in the match. Germany will take on Azerbaijan on Tuesday, 7 September 2010 in their second qualifier.
