Head coach Thomas Schaaf's training squad this week is not very extensive. But a visit to training Tuesday afternoon was worth it as new acquisition Mikael Silvestre completed his first training session with his new teammates. And the first impression of the new Frenchman was positive. "It seems like a super team, I was definitely very warmly welcomed. It was my first training with a real professional team in three months," said the defender, who has since last season been keeping fit in a training group with a number of professionals in St Raphael in southern France.
Thomas Schaaf watched Silvestre closely and said afterwards: "He did well what you can expect from him such short term. He really took part in things and got to know some teammates for the first time. Of course it was good for him that we trained in such a small group today. He is fit. All told, it was a good start."
But he left an impression on the young players. Felix Kroos, who trained for the first time after his knee ligament injury, praised Silvestre. "He is a top guy. You could tell there was a reason that he played for years with Manchester United," said Kroos.
Besides Silvestre and Kroos, there was another seldom seen Werder player on the training grounds as Naldo, who is still labouring with a knee injury, completed an individual running program.
