Werder Bremen extended striker Markus Rosenberg's contract for one year until 30 June 2012 and then lent out the Swedish forward for the 2010-11 season to Spanish top flight side Racing Santander. The 28-year-old Rosenberg and both clubs agreed to the deal Tuesday afternoon shortly before the end of the transfer period.
"This is a sensible solution for all involved. Markus would like to get game experience and we could not guarantee that despite his improving form in the preparations and his important goal in the Champions League qualification. We are certain that he will fight his way through in Spain and once again continually demonstrate his qualities," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs.
Rosenberg himself is looking forward to the year in Spain. "With this constellation I have a clear perspective in front of me. I am certain that I will return improved," Rosenberg said after the agreement.
Markus Rosenberg arrived at Bremen in 2007 from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam. The Swede had played before that in Sweden with Halmstads BK and his home club Malmö FF. The striker appeared in 90 Bundesliga matches and scored 30 goals for the Green-Whites and won the 2009 German Cup crown. With the Swedish national team, Roseberg has tallied six goals in 30 caps, playing at the 2006 World Cup and the Euro 2008 for Sweden.
