Wesley has worn the diamond-clad training kit of Werder Bremen for the past three days. And now Bremen fans know a bit more about what is underneath the Werder logo on the defender’s chest. During his official presentation Wednesday afternoon, he offered some personal insight; talked about tips he received from Diego; his Twitter account; and his new friendship with Naldo.
"Everything okay!" Wesley said in German at the start of the press conference and was all smiles talking about the club "which just fits to me". The Brazilian said he knows from a reliable source how things will be at Werder as former Green-White star Diego had called him weeks ago. "He said that Werder is a very good club with a lot of quality. He said that when the negotiations go well that I can calmly go there and look forward to the club," said the 23-year-old. Wesley said he has already met nice colleagues, including of course his compatriot Naldo. "A very nice guy. I have only known him a couple days, but I am certain that we will have a wonderful friendship here," said Wesley.
Wesley still lives in the Park Hotel but that will change soon. "Now I want to find a house here quickly and then my wife and small dog will come. And when everything is okay my family will visit soon thereafter," said the Brazilian.
Until then he hopes to establish himself sports-wise in Bremen. "I can help the team a bit. Every Brazilian has their own style. Which position I will play only depends on the coach’s plans," said Wesley. Coach Thomas Schaaf wants to integrate his new acquisition as quickly as possible. "Wesley is a very interesting player, who fits in with the club from his style. He looks for his shot but also sets up his teammates well. I assume that he will quickly understand himself with his partners and show his quality. We weren’t there for two days but in that time he trained and showed off. On Thursday we will train together for the first time, and if the impression is that he is fit and adapted then we will see if he is far enough for Saturday," said Schaaf.
