Reactions to the draw
Head-coach Thomas Schaaf:
"If you had watched the draw, which was made together with the announcement of the European Player of the Year awards, then it was quite clear to see how one should rate Inter Milan. Europe’s best player, best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder and best striker all play for the title holders. They are a fantastic team and a massive challenge. Then there is Tottenham, a team that asserted themselves in England and then played very strongly against Bern. With Crouch and Defoe they have some big names within their ranks. Even from Pot 4 we got one of the most difficult teams in Twente Enschede. They are Dutch champions, that say it all. It’s a difficult but also an interesting group. We will have to be in top form and a lot must go in our favour if we are to progress from this tight group."
General manager Klaus Allofs:
"Of course there are not many easy teams when you are playing in the Champions League, but with Inter Milan, the Dutch champions and Tottenham we have drawn some very interesting opponents. We had actually been hoping for Tottenham. We had said that we want to play against teams that we have not faced before, and that’s the case with the English club. It’s certainly a very interesting group for our fans."
Captain Torsten Frings:
"That’s a very, very difficult group, but it’s because of such opponents that you play in the Champions League. I’d been hoping for a top team coming to Bremen that had never been there before, but with the title holders, we’ll be hosting a stunning team at the Weser-Stadion. The fans can really look forward to that, as they can to the games against Tottenham and Twente Enschede. On the whole, they are all very appealing teams."
