Same old, same old. That must have been Tim Wiese’s thoughts after allowing four goals on the first game day. It was the fifth time the keeper stood between the posts on a Bundesliga season opening day since 2006 and Wiese only left the pitch as a winner in 2006 in Hannover after a 4-2 victory. And he always allowed at least two goals with the number increasing. Last season it was three goals before giving up four on Saturday in Hoffenheim. Maybe that is the reason that the German international did not want to cause a panic afterwards. "It went really bad today. We were still tired from the game on Wednesday and then you had the warm temperatures and a really strong showing by Hoffenheim. They all looked fresh while we all looked very tired. We have to look past it. But from experience I know that Werder almost always start poorly. But in the end usually something good happens. The season is still so long," said Wiese.

Despite this experienced look on things, Werder players did not shy away from self-criticism. Clemens Fritz for example had some clear words. "In some situations we played really poorly. We just cannot allow three counter attack goals. We lost too many balls too easily and allowed too much open space. We have to improve on that quickly," said Fritz.

"After a difficult game on Wednesday we wanted to hold the ball well and play out our experience. And the 1-0 was just what we needed but then we just stopped playing. We were bad and were just missing everything which we are known for," added captain Torsten Frings.
