There was good news for Werder manager Klaus Allofs Friday evening in the team hotel in Walldorf as he was informed by telephone about the agreement by FC Santos for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Wesley. Nothing remains in the way of the move of the South American from FC Santos to Werder Bremen. The Green-Whites agreed weeks ago with the player on the details of the collaboration with the all-arounder approving of a four-year contract until 30 June 2014. "We needed to have a lot of patience and now we are rewarded for it. With Wesley we strengthened ourselves with a very versatile, dynamic player who can play all the positions in the midfield," said Allofs after the telephone call.
The 23-year-old is due to arrive in Bremen in the coming week and brought into training operations. But he will not be on the roster for the Champions League qualifier at Sampdoria Genua. The 1.79m strong technician is looking forward to his up-coming duties with the Green-Whites. "It has been my life long dream to play for a top club in a very strong league. I am overjoyed that it worked out with Werder Bremen. I am looking forward to the city and would like to make my way into the team as quickly as possible and make the fans happy," said Werder’s new player in a telephone interview with WERDER.DE.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf accepted the news positively. "We emphasized that we will always look around for interesting players and especially showed our interest in Wesley. The fact that we could realize the transfer speaks for Werder and increases the quality of our team. But now our interest must be on the Bundesliga start against Hoffenheim. Everything else will take of itself when Wesley arrives in Bremen," said the Bremen coach.
Werder Bremen is Wesley’s first stop abroad. Until now the Cantanduva, Brazil native has solely played in his homeland. Other than being on loan to Clube Atlético Paranaense from March to December 2009, Wesley played for his hometown club FC Santos. All told, Wesley Lopes Beltrame has played more than 100 matches. Among his biggest successes were winning the state title in Paraná with Atlético Paranaense in 2009 and the state title in Sao Paulo (Paulista) with FC Santos in 2010.
