Europe’s ruling body UEFA nominated Stéphane Lannoy of France for Werder’s Champions League playoff first leg match against Sampdoria Genua. The 40-year-old Boulogne sur Mer native, who referees international matches and games in the French Ligue 1, has a lot of experience, including matches at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Fellow Frenchmen Laurent Ugo and Stéphane Duhamel will serve as Lannoy’s linesmen and Philippe Malige will be the fourth official in Werder’s first international appearance of the 2010-11 season.
