There were not many surprises at Werder's training on Thursday. While the international players who made appearances the night before went through individual training and light running drills, the rest of the team prepared for the German Cup match on Saturday at Rot Weiss Ahlen.
Looking ahead to the squad for the cup match, head coach Thomas Schaaf said he wants to wait for the Thursday and Friday training sessions before he and the coaching staff make their choices. But Schaaf did admit it will likely be "the same squad which has been available during the preparations - or rather not available." Schaaf meant Naldo (knee problems) and Christian Vander (pubic bone inflammation), who will both miss the start of the season for the Green-Whites. In addition, the World Cup participants are not yet in absolute top competitive form yet. But Bremen has a squad "which should do the job," said Schaaf.
The only real small question mark is about Sebastian Prödl. "He received a bruise just before the end of his international match. But it is not that bad," said Schaaf about the Austrian.
