Even on the 38th day of season preparations, Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf was asked about Mesut Özil and growing transfer rumours. And for the 38th time, Schaaf could only answer: "There is nothing new." The only news Wednesday was at Werder’s training. Just like a day earlier, it was clear that the training session was overshadowed by the international match schedule. In addition to German internationals Marko Marin, Tim Wiese, Aaron Hunt and Philipp Bargfrede (U21), also missing were Petri Pasanen (Finland), Marko Arnautovic (Austria U21) and Sebastian Prödl (Austria).

One player who will not be showing up at Werder training is Aldo Corzo as the Peruvian test player was not acquired just like Juan Barros and has departed for his homeland. Barros however will train a couple more days with the team in Bremen. Daniel Jensen on the other hand was back on the training grounds. The Danish international has overcome his gastro-intestinal problems and his injured Achilles tendon "is getting better and better". Jensen added: "I did everything in training camp, that was a step forward."

One player who would like to be in training but could only ride a few laps around the Werder Lake on a bike was Christian Vander. The goalkeeper is dealing with an inflamed pubic bone, which will not let him return soon.
