Peter Niemeyer will be wearing the Hertha Berlin jersey as of now as the midfielder on Monday signed a contract extension with Werder Bremen until 2012 but was sent on loan to second division side Hertha for this up-coming season. The Berlin side have agreed to a set buy-out option should the club gain promotion back to the Bundesliga for the following season. Further details of the transfer were not released. Niemeyer passed his sports physical on Monday and will now start training with Berlin.

"In the past years Peter was always a player teetering between a starting spot and the bench. And with our large number of midfielders it would have been tough for him this season to get the playing time he had hoped for. I think that the transfer will help all parties involved. We are also certain that Peter will fight his way through with Berlin," said Bremen manager Klaus Allofs.

Niemeyer leaves Werder with positive memories. "I had a good time here with sporting success and the opportunity to gather a lot of international experience. I am looking forward to the chance in Berlin where I can certainly help the team fight for promotion back to the Bundesliga. That will be a difficult but very exciting task," said Niemeyer.

Niemeyer came to the Green-Whites in 2007 from Twente Enschede after transferring to the Netherlands as a youth player from Borussia Emsdetten. He played 32 Bundesliga matches for Werder and scored two goals. Niemeyer also celebrated the German Cup title in 2009 with Bremen. In addition, he earned six caps for the German U21 national team and took part in the U21 European Championship in 2006 in Portugal.
