The preparations are a time for travelling – especially for Werder’s international players. Just as the first competitive match is nearing the next international matches are already on schedule for Wednesday 11 August 2010.
Tim Wiese, Marko Marin and Aaron Hunt are on the German national team roster for the friendly match against Denmark. The test match set for 8:30 p.m. in Copenhagen will not include Per Mertesacker and <b<Mesut Özil</b> as the duo will remain in Bremen – as agreed to by the German federation – to prepare for the up-coming season. The return to the national team is especially special for Hunt. "Of course I am excited about it. I hope I get a chance to play. I feel good," said the 23-year-old midfielder.
Philipp Bargfrede headed to the German U21 team a day early than his senior team counterparts for the important U21 European Championship qualifier against Iceland in Hafnarfjördur. The German youngsters need a victory to stay alive for the 2011 tournament in Denmark. Kick-off is at 6:15 p.m. (GMT).
Austrians Sebastian Prödl and Marko Arnautovic will also be playing on Wednesday with Prödl facing off against Switzerland with the senior team in Klagenfurt at 8:30 p.m. and Werder’s new acquisition Arnautovic playing a U21 European Championship qualifier against Belarus at 7 p.m. in Pasching. Petri Pasanen meanwhile will line up with Finland in a friendly against Belgium in Turku at 7 p.m.
Another World Cup participant will have things a bit quieter as Hugo Almeida and Portugal do not have an international match scheduled for Wednesday.
