On the occasion of the club’s 111th birthday, Werder began a campaign under the motto: "My Most Wonderful Werder Moment". Sought after were very personal, funny and spectacular anecdotes from Green-Whites fans from all around the world. One particular story made an extremely long journey indeed on its way to the banks of the Weser. Luo Wenqi’s experience was sent to Bremen from Shanghai (China). Enjoy the tale!

"As a Werder fan in China, who has never been in Bremen myself, I have had many experiences which I would consider 'Werder Moments'. Moments when, with my hands trembling, I sat with a letter of reply from Werder, which included autographs, or sitting with my surprised friends or other football fans, listening to them chatting about great Werder victories (such as the win over Juventus in 2006). What I want to tell you about though is one of those moments - and my Werder jersey plays an important role. A friend of mine, who studies in Germany, brought me the jersey when she came home for the Easter holidays. It looks fantastic.
I don’t wear the jersey very often, because I’m afraid the wash could destroy the logo, but on special days I make an exception – like last year when the German national team came to Shanghai to play a friendly international. Although it was a pity that, due to the DFB-Cup final, there were no Werder players in the squad (although the title win did quickly console me), I decided to wear my jersey to the match.
Werder jersey proves fan magnet
I arrived at the stadium very early, because I wanted to meet a friend before the game at the CCTV. She was surprised to see me in green, because there would be no Werder player involved in the match. As we chatted, more and more fans arrived at the game. Several Chinese fans asked if they could have their picture taken with me, because they wanted to have a Werder jersey in the background. A few German fans walked past me, took one look and turned back. They also wanted a photo with me - which is very unusual, especially here in China. A stranger who wants his picture taken with you? They explained that they were Werder fans and that they were delighted to meet another Green-White fan here.
Such incidents were repeated at the half-time break. I think that no matter who we are, where we come from or how well we know one another, our support and love for Werder Bremen is the same. It’s a warming and special feeling! There are many Werder fans around the world and it’s great to know and experience that.
That is my 'Werder Moment'. Maybe I can’t express myself well enough to describe it but anyway, all the best on your 11th birthday Werder Bremen – A life-long Green-White!"
Editorial note: Naturally Luo Wenqi was able to express her worldwide love of Werder very well, the jury voted her in fifth place. The prize is on its way to China.
