For the one player the infection has left and it has arrived for the other. Word from Bremen on Friday was positive about Werder midfielder Tim Borowski, who has overcome his fever and could possibly fly to Austria on Saturday afternoon. But head coach Thomas Schaaf has done without Petri Pasanen since Friday morning. The Finnish international completed a running session along the Wagerberg which started at 7:30 a.m. but felt weak after returning from the run. "We wanted to be cautious and pulled him from the rest of the training program after the running. We hope that he can increase the burden after a day's break," said Schaaf, who is unsatisfied with the length of the sick and injured list.
"It of course cannot be satisfactory when I am missing a regular like Naldo for this long. I saw him once shortly since the start of training, then he had to call it off. That really bothers me a lot because he will still need time to get back into top form. If we want to achieve something then we will need every player," said Schaaf.
The same goes for defender Sebastian Prödl, who must fill the hole left by Naldo. "I spoke with Sebastian that it's now time to make his mark. It's not about Naldo or (Per) Mertesacker being ahead of him but more about seeing if Prödl is fully ready. He has to show where he wants to position himself. He has to substantiate his demands," said Schaaf.
