Werder Bremen won their first real challenge of the preparations of the 2010-11 season by coming back to beat fellow Bundesliga side SC Freiburg 2-1 (0-0). Werder did not have many chances in the first half and Freiburg took the lead in the 65th minute through reserve Caliguri. But Werder substitute Markus Rosenberg knotted the game in the 68th minute and gave Bremen the tough victory with his second goal of the match in the 85th minute.
Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf was without his German international players as well as injured captain Torsten Frings and centre back Naldo. New acquisition Marko Arnautovic started in the midfield with Claudio Pizarro and Hugo Almeida were in the attack. But it was Rosenberg who struck twice after coming on at half-time.
