They were hardly back from the island and now they are on the road again. After head coach Thomas Schaaf’s team returned from their training camp on Norderney on Thursday night the players had a test match on Saturday against FC Hambergen (13-1 victory over Vollersode) and headed for their next training camp on Monday.
The plane landed on time at 1:33 p.m. in Stuttgart from where the team bus brought them to their confines in Donaueschingen. A nice hotel, a first class pitch and beaming sunshine brought Claudio Pizarro, Sebastian Boenisch and Sandro Wagner among others into a good mood. All three had to miss the last couple days with small injuries. "I had to lay around for the last two days and couldn’t do anything. But now I am back. I hope that I didn’t lose too much ground and can go at it with full steam," said Wagner, who was out with an infection.
Also on board of the plane was Hugo Almeida. Werder’s Portuguese was the first player who was at the World Cup in South Africa to return to Bremen training. The striker was already on the ball in the morning training session in Bremen. His German national team colleagues are not due to return to training until the training camp in Bad Woltersdorf. Denmark’s international Daniel Jensen cannot work with the team at the moment due to an injury (groin surgery). And Dominik Schmidt is also injured (groin) and remained back in Bremen.
While a couple of players will miss the training session in Donauerschingen, Aldo Corzo and Juan Barros both are still with the team, travelling with the team and hoping to convince head coach Thomas Schaaf and manager Klaus Allofs of their abilities. The first chance for them to do so will come Tuesday evening when Werder face off against SSV Reutingen in Kreuzeichen Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
