The test match scheduled for Monday night against KFC Uerdingen was postponed at short notice due to thunderstorms. "The entire pitch is under water. You can't even think about a football match," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf after a visit of the An der Mühle grounds. As an alternative, the Werder players were to train in front of fans at 5:30 p.m. on the pitch nearby.
"I have never experienced something like this on Norderney," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs surprised about the thunderstorms. "It's not uncommon that games are called off in the winter, but after having the game in Bad Waltersdorf cancelled last summer it's the second match which has fall victim to weather in the summer preparations," said Allofs. "The spectators would have had to bring their swimming shorts with them due to the ponds of water around the pitch," said event manager Rudi König.
The test match against Uerdingen has not been called off entirely, as it's been postponed until Tuesday, 13 July 2010 at 6:45 p.m. at the An der Mühle grounds. "We did not want to completely cancel the game and are able to improvise. So we wanted to make the best of the situation and decided to play tomorrow because we wanted to start the season with this game and Uerdingen is ready to go," said Allofs.
Already-purchased tickets are valid for the Tuesday match or can be returned to the travel office Reisebüro Norderney.
