Werder players have put behind them their first full day of training on Norderney. The Green-Whites completed three training sessions in temperatures of 30 degrees and blazing sunshine. While vacationers were enjoying the benefits of the island, the Green-Whites were working intensively and concentrated.
"We do everything here which the island offers," said head coach Thomas Schaaf before the training camp started and showed Friday what he meant. The Werder troops left the team hotel at 7:15 a.m. for a bike ride to the White Dunes for a run along the beach of about eight kilometres. At 11 a.m. the first training session on the pitch took place, focusing on strength, coordination and shooting drills. And those players who thought they would be spared by the watchful eyes of the spectators nearby were mistaken. "Come on, we want to do something here!" urged on Schaaf to his players.
"These are certainly not the best days of the day for the players," said manager Klaus Allofs, who arrived with the team in the late afternoon after Schaaf had called the Green-Whites to a third session at 5:30 p.m. At least the final training focused predominantly on work with the ball.
