The Werder players are slowly starting to sweat: One day before the departure for Norderney, head coach Thomas Schaaf brought his players in for two training sessions in the glaring Bremen sun on Wednesday. Fans were left wondering about two faces who were not part of the professional team or the youth side. Juan José Barros and Aldo Corzo were the two test players from Peru who have been in Bremen since Tuesday evening and participating as training guests at Werder practice.
Barros is somewhat more known as the 21-year-old Peruvian with a Colombian passport was a guest along the Weser last winter. He took part in the Under-20 continental championship in Venezuela last year, peaking the interest of scouts. Barros is currently under contract with the Peruvian top flight club Universitario de Deportes.
Like Barros, Aldo Corzo also is a 21-year-old defender active in the Peruvian first division. He plays with Universidad San Martín de Porres and has earned three caps for the Peruvian national team. Werder star striker Claudio Pizarro helped head coach Thomas Schaaf by translating the coach’s directions to his compatriots in Spanish. "But are good players who have long played in Peru’s first league," said Pizarro about the young guests. Both Barros and Corzo are expected to travel with the team to the training camp in Norderney. Werder captain Torsten Frings was at the morning training session but missed the afternoon practice with a groin problem. Head coach Thomas Schaaf said Frings must wait for an examination.
